Wilfrid Laurier University Special Constable Service is committed to:
- The prevention of crime, education, customer service,
encouraging partnerships and the protection of rights which will enhance
the quality of life for our students, faculty, staff and visitors.
- Using the Neighbourhood Policing Model to solve and prevent
crime through education and the formation of partnerships to make
Wilfrid Laurier University a safer place to learn, live and work.
All Special Constable Service staff must meet specific criteria as
set out by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
and are sworn in by an Ontario Court of Justice as Special Constables.
Special Constables are Peace Officers who are employed for the
preservation and maintenance of the public peace. As such, we will
enforce City of Brantford by-laws, provincial offences, federal statutes
and university regulations when contravention is on, or in relation to,
any university affiliated property. We may lay charges and/or make
arrests under the same legal authority as police officers. We work in
collaboration with the Brantford City Police Service. We will practice
alternative measure through the Judicial Affairs Counsel and Residence
Life here at Laurier Brantford.
