Biography

Peter Hatch received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of British Columbia following MusBac and MusM degrees from the University of Toronto. His works have been performed throughout North America and Europe and have been recorded on numerous compact discs under the CBC Musica Viva, CMC Centrediscs, Conaccord, CBC and Artifact labels. Founder of WaterlooÕs NUMUS Concerts in 1985, Dr. Hatch was Composer-in-Residence with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony from 1999-2003 and is currently Artistic Director of the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound. He was Wilfrid Laurier University's University Research Professor for 2006-2007.


Academic/Performance Interests

Dr. Peter Hatch's compositions are in many genres, from orchestral and chamber music to instrumental theatre, performance art, electroacoustics and installations. Some of his concert work incorporates theatrical and multi-media elements, reflecting his interest in extending traditional concert music performance practices.


Recent Scholarly/Performance Activity

Reaching for Nothing: Water’s Thirst (2008)
A full evening interdisciplinary work created in collaboration with visual artist Dereck Revington, with David Earle, choreographer.

The Call of Amber (2006) An 8 minute work for large brass ensemble and percussion commissioned by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
