Academic Background

WLU became my place of work in 1987 when the CS department hired me as weekend computer operator. Eventually, my shift changed to full time afternoon/evening operator.

In 1990, I was hired as lab support coordinator for the geography department. Through the years this position has changed including many roles from development of course materials, instructing labs, hiring teaching assistants, assembling and manipulating data (spatial and non-spatial) to assisting research projects, and supporting departmental computing.

Biography

Born in England (1963), I emigrated with my parents to Canada in 1969. Ajax was home until 1982 when I moved to Waterloo in pursuit of a University education. My studies ranged from mathematics to geography and computing. Studies and summer job experiences opened my eyes to a bright future in the application of computers in geography.

In 1986, I met my wife Ava. We have been happily married since 1987 with two children Weslee (born 1990) and Luke (born 1998). The boys are our pride and joy.

Additional Information

I enjoy traveling with my family, BBQing year round and doing home renovations.

Since 1996, Taekwondo (a Korean martial art/sport) and other fitness activities have occupied many lunch-hours and evenings. In 2010, I obtained a 3^rd Dan Black Belt. I’ve instructed Taekwondo in private clubs and here at WLU (i.e. Martial Arts Coaching Instructor 2004-2009).
