Biography

I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Delhi Ontario, and cannot think of a better place for a kid to grow up. When I have some free time I still like to go home and help out on the farm. I do my best thinking on the seat of a tractor.

I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier’s Waterloo campus in 2005 with a BA in Kinesiology & Physical Education and a general degree in History. My plan leaving high school was to become a high school teacher, but my extra-curricular involvements at Laurier led me down a different path. I got involved in Residence Life in 1st year as my Floor Rep on my House Council. That led me to become a Don for the next 3 years – my first job outside of farming. It was the perfect fit for me. In addition to being heavily involved in Residence Life, I played a number of intramurals and was a member of the first team of Leadership Mentors to be hired by the Student Leadership Centre.

I was fortunate enough get a job shortly after graduating at Laurier’s Brantford Campus in the new position of Student Life Intern, and over the course of 3 years, worked my way up to Interim Manager of Residential Services. During this time, as a live-in professional, I literally called the Brantford Campus Home and gained a profound appreciation for the positive change that University was driving in Brantford’s downtown.

Getting married in 2008 required a change in career path and in 2009 I took over as the Brantford Campus Recruitment Officer. It was a perfect fit for me – visiting local high schools to encourage students to ‘Choose Laurier’ was easy, fun, and rewarding for me both personally and professionally.

In my current role as Manager of Brantford Recruitment Services, I lead a team of passionate and dedicated professional and student staff, who like me believe that Laurier truly provides an exceptional University education, and University experience. While our focus is on the Brantford Campus, we are all firm believers in the multi-campus approach that has allowed Laurier to grow to a mid-sized, comprehensive University while maintaining the small, close-knit community feel that defines our reputation. We have a lot of fun building relationships with the Students, Families, Guidance Counsellors, and other members of the Community we have the chance to meet during our travels, across Ontario at the events we attend like the annual OUF and the events we host like our Open House.

I love to sing, and have a great time as a member of the music team at my Church. They do thing a bit differently than the church I grew up in – I’ve had the chance to do a lot of different songs, including performing Backstreet Boys, and Elvis.

The Kinesiology student in my is still alive and well. I love staying active, and playing sports. Favourites in no particular order include:

Golf, Basketball, Softball, Running, Volleyball, and Curling
