Each summer, SP200: Study Abroad takes students on an incredible journey and all-inclusive learning experience abroad. This year, SP200 was hosted by El Colegio de España in Salamanca, Spain, where WLU students immersed themselves in the Spanish language and culture. Under the direction of the Supervising Professor, Dr. John W. Schwieter, and the 2011 Program Assistants, Lic. Samuel Daniels, Lic. Leo González, and Sarah Kunert, this three-week, intensive language and culture course complemented in-class instruction with many out-of-class activities abroad.

In addition to the 0.5-credit language course with Dr. Schwieter and many hours of included cultural and conversation activities, SP200 students visited over a dozen towns (including 9 UNESCO world heritage sites!) along with aqueducts, fairytale castles, cathedrals, walled cities, fortresses, traditional villages, world renown museums, SP200 Encore Events (Cirque du Soleil's "Corteo", flamenco show and lessons, Spanish banquet buffet), and more!

The all-inclusive program package provides students with: international airfare and all transportation abroad; textbook for SP200 course; intensive conversation classes with El Colegio de España (8 hours); cultural activities; homestay in Salamanca with Spanish host families including meals, linens, and optional laundry service; all tour/museum admissions and hotel accommodations for 8 nights while touring throughout Spain.

The success of this initiative has once again surpassed everyone’s expectations. To see more about this great experience in addition to future destination plans, please visit http://www.wlu.ca/page.php?grp_id=2267&p=14843.
