Flash/back: Memory on Film

Associate Professor Marta Marín-Dòmine presents 1930-1942: Memoire Juive du Quartier Marolles-Midi B
Nov 8/13

Date: Nov 8/13
Time: 19:00 - 21:00
Location: Bricker Academic 201
Cost: Free

This particular screening takes place Nov. 8 during Holocaust Education Week. Associate Professor Marta Marín-Dòmine will present her 2012 documentary 1930-1942: Memoire Juive du Quartier Marolles-Midi Bruxelles, which will be followed by Alain Resnais’ 1955 documentary, Night and Fog.

Presented in partnership with the Centre for Memory and Testimony Studies, the WLU Film Society, and the Dean of Arts Office, these Friday evening screenings showcase examples of the ways in which film has engaged—and continues to engage—with memory, whether individual or collective, or construed in terms of “cultural memory” over against more traditional notions of history as a record of shared experience. Each screening will be presented by a Laurier faculty member or PhD student who will provide insight into the particular film’s mediation of memory and to the consequent transformations in film narrative and aesthetics.
