HOW MAPS CHANGE THINGS: A Conversation about the Maps We Choose and the World We Want

Book Launch
Oct 17/13

Date: Oct 17/13
Time: 16:00 - 17:00
Location: Keffer Chapel, Waterloo Lutheran Seminary
Cost: Free & Open to the Public

In his new book, How Maps Change Things, Ward Kaiser examines maps as change agents, reflecting intentions and setting agendas, stating who has what, and who has not. What are the messages sent by maps? What were Mercator, Peters and other mapmakers setting out to do with each of their creations? How do maps reflect world-views and ideological assumptions?

In this book, Ward explores…“how we shape and use maps and how they in turn shape us. In short, it’s about you and me and ways of seeing: how we see the world and therefore how we understand our place in it, how we connect to it and to all the people with whom we share this spaceship called Earth.”

Join us as author Ward Kaiser talks about the story behind the writing of this fascinating work.
