Entrepreneurial start-ups in emerging markets versus developed economies are contrasted in the framework of an NPV model. Interest rate changes are shown to induce changes in start-up timing in emerging markets but not in developed economies, a theoretical outcome that is broadly consistent with existing empirical evidence regarding the interest rate sensitivity of investment expenditures.
This paper was published in the September 2008 (Volume 1 Number 5) issue of the Journal of Money, Investment, and Banking.
