Honorarium Guidelines
C. Barry, Payroll
published: 2012 | Procedure | Payments
The purpose of this guideline is to provide a framework for consistent and fair treatment, across the University, when giving a nominal payment to a guest speaker or other individual(s) who has been invited to provide a unique service to the University.
This guideline applies to non-employees of the University only. The University will not provide an honorarium payment to an existing employee. An employee may be eligible to receive a stipend for specified services and would be subject to any taxation consequences.
An honorarium is an ex gratia payment made to a person for their services in a volunteer capacity or for services for which fees are not traditionally required.
