When Bullying is Everyday Behaviour: The Case of Roger the Assembler

Case Description: This case study takes place in an industrial setting in which the day-to-day interpersonal behaviour of employees toward each other is "rough and tumble." In this factory, multiple employees have been engaged in physical and psychological harassment over time with the apparent consent of managers who have adopted a "see no evil, speak no evil" policy. Management treats the incident in this case, in which Roger kicks Mitch, an employee who is related to a member of the managerial team, as the straw that broke the camel's back. A decision must be made regarding how to deal with the incident and more specifically, what to do about Roger.
