Case Description: The Moulin Rouge case presents the causes
leading to the Cabaret's bankruptcy in 1997. It deals with the
commercial, marketing and financial strategies to turn the firm around.
The case study begins with a detailed history of the Cabaret's success.
Students progressively discover the elements explaining the company's
difficulties, some of which are explained further in the case study
appendices. The appendix notes give precise information on the services
proposed by the firm Bal Du Moulin Rouge (BMR), its commercial
activity, statistics on tourism and the company's financial position.
The pedagogical note presents a way to discuss the case in the classroom, providing complementary information on the Moulin Rouge and various technical notes (e.g., calculating breakeven point, PowerPoint documents with explanatory graphs, etc.) There is an accompanying video in english (11 minutes) which includes interviews with Moulin Rouge customers and staff, and videos of the show.
The case and teaching notes are also available in french.
