Case Description: Gelcore is a producer of soft gel and
hard gel capsulation technology used to create the soft gel capsules
used for paint balls, health and nutritional products, cosmetics and
pharmaceuticals. During the company's early years the company was
thrice recognized as one of Canada's Top 50 Best Managed Companies and
between 1990 and 1999 the company saw its sales revenue grow by more
than 25% annually. Gelcore's focus on growth and manufacturing of
health care products (predominantly pharmaceutical and over-the-counter
products) led to the building of a new site in 1999. Times have changed
and the business is in some trouble and the major question arises
whether or not to switch into a major pharmaceutical direction
requiring extensive governmental regulations be satisfied. A new CEO,
Board and HR director are in place and a new strategic and HR plan is
required.
