Case Description: Tiger Brand Knitting"" (TB) describes the
family and strategic dilemmas faced by Joan Fisk, President of TB. TB
is a rapidly growing Canadian, family owned, vertically-integrated
manufacturer of sports clothing. TB's strategy is to expand from a
Canadian base into the US market. It targets a high quality sector of
the sports clothing sector and manufacturers under private labels for
retailers such as the GAP, Nordstrum's, etc. and is considering
developing its own brand label. Fisk's two brothers, as senior
officers, manage the purchasing and manufacturing at TB. Family
dynamics have been turbulent and there is no clear mechanism for
conflict resolution of major issues. The case is suitable for MBA for
third or fourth year undergraduate classes.
