Case Description: In the summer of 1983 the
federal government announced it would be modifying the laws governing
PATENT PROTECTION FOR THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY IN CANADA. The
companies forming the generic sector of the industry were concerned
because the contemplated change in the law would favour the patent
holders at the expense of the generic firms. The industry
association for the generic firms has decided to meet to determine how
it will respond to a government request for consultation on the
possible changes in the patent law.
