Travel Grant Application

Office of Research Services

published: 2012 | Procedure | grant application

Maximum Value: $1,500

Deadlines: October 15 and March 1

Purpose

To provide travel assistance to faculty presenting papers or posters at scholarly international congresses or workshops or at conferences of international learned societies.
It is expected that the paper will be submitted for publication in the Proceedings or submitted for publication in an appropriate scholarly journal, monograph or book.

Who Can Apply?

     Full time Faculty only.

Normally, no more than one Travel Grant request per faculty member will be funded in a fiscal year, and an individual will not be eligible to receive more than three travel grants in a five year fiscal period. If the amount of money requested for travel exceeds the allocated budget for this program, priority will be given to those presenting papers who have not travelled in the previous three years.

Application Requirements

The meeting must be an academic or professional conference attended by peers employed in an academic institution.
The conference must be sponsored by an academic or professional institution or an association with an international reputation.

The conference must be international in character in the sense that the program includes a significant number of international participants.

Applicants must indicate the North American Conferences (i.e. Canada and continental U.S.A.) at which they have presented papers during the past three years, in order to ensure that faculty members are also contributing to conferences in North America as well as abroad.

The applicant must be on the conference program and must submit a copy of the Call for Papers; the Preliminary Brochure, Poster or Program; any information about the refereeing process to be used; the program (this document may be submitted to the Vice-President: Research when it is received, if it is not available at time of application); an estimate of the number of persons attending the conference or workshop; a copy of the letter confirming that the paper has been accepted (this also may follow if unavailable at time of application); and, a copy of the abstract.

Applicants who received a travel grant in a previous competition must submit evidence that the paper presented at the previous conference has been published in the Proceedings or elsewhere, or that the paper is currently under review.

On return from the conference, a copy of the paper presented and a report of the conference must be filed with the Research Office.

Eligible Costs

No expenses will be covered for travel that occurred before the grant is awarded.
