Personal counselling is available to assist students with a wide range of concerns. Service is primarily delivered through individual counselling sessions, but group counselling and workshops are also offered. The clincial staff are professional counsellors with graduate degrees in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, social work, or related disciplines.
Counselling Services counsellors are familiar with issues that may affect a studentís academic success and personal satisfaction including: anxiety, depression, stress, roommate tensions, parental and family conflict, drinking and drug use, homesickness, surviving a breakup, grief, self-confidence, self-harm, eating and body image difficulties, and sexual orientation and identity. During a studentís initial appointment, an Intake Counsellor will review concerns and issues and provide feedback regarding options. If further counselling is recommended, the Intake Counsellor will match the client to the most appropriate counsellor or services. Consultations and crisis appointments are also available through our walk-in system and/or time reserved each day during office hours. Please call to confirm availability or to explore other options.
Visit the Counselling Services website for an overview of appointment procedures and services, and online self-help resources.
Counselling services are FREE for Laurier students and are completely confidential.
