The Counselling Services office on Laurier's Waterloo campus provides professional consultation to enhance student performance and personal development. Your regular student fees for part-time or full-time study cover up to 8 confidential appointments per academic term. This provides an opportunity to discuss any personal concern from relationship issues to emotional issues and many more. A visit to the Web site listed below can be an easy introduction to these professional services and to online resources that may give you a head start on your own.
In addition to traditional counselling for personal issues, Counselling Services offers individual consultation and related programs to enhance student performance in academics, athletics, music and other areas. Psychological insights and practical strategies can be applied here to personal confidence, concentration, focus, goal setting, motivation, perfectionism, procrastination, stress management, mistake recovery, risk of failure (or success) and related issues. Enhanced performance skills may be the essential complement to otherwise good study or learning skills, good preparation and potential, to insure better results under pressure in the exam room, on stage as a performer or presenter, on the athletic field - or even speaking up in class or in a social situation!
The professional staff at Counselling services are also available for individual or group debriefing after a traumatic experience or tragic loss. Consultation is available for those concerned about another person who may be in emotional crisis. Joint couple counselling is available where at least one partner is a Laurier student. Group workshops in some of the above areas of personal development and student performance are offered on campus or on the Counselling Services Web site, along with other useful materials available online or in their private office location.
