Freelance Journalism

Laurier's new course, taught by internationally published freelance journalist Paul Gains, offers participants tips and tricks on how to get their work published in newspapers and trade publications.
This course covers:
- getting started: resources/equipment
- establishing realistic goals
- studying the marketplace
- refining your story ideas
- writing query letters
- negotiating fees
- delivering your work
- overcoming the fear of rejection

The course is a combination of in-class exercises, field trips and guest speakers, giving participants as much practical experience as possible.

Yes, Paul was a journalism instructor at Conestoga College and has facilitated lecture seminars in freelance writing at Atlas Studios since 1998.
