Academic/Course Equivalencies - Out of Country/Out of Province
Normally, the following academic standings are
accepted as equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with
Ontario University, University/College Preparation Courses.
| Canada
|
Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New
Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Nunavut,
Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and Yukon territories – Grade 12
(Senior Matriculation). Québec – CEGEP General I or McGill Senior
School Certificate or Senior High School Leaving Certificate. For specific information, refer to Coast-to-Coast Program Specific Requirements.

| United Kingdom and Other Commonwealth Countries
|
The General Certificate of Secondary Education in
at least five or six subjects. At least two of the subjects must be at
the advanced level with acceptable standing. Note the English
proficiency requirements in the previous section.

| United States of America
|
Applicants who have completed United States Grade
12 with superior academic standing and can present Scholastic Aptitude
Test (SAT); minumum score of 550 in each section (Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing sections of the test) will be
considered for admission to Year 1 of a degree program. Otherwise,
applicants must present acceptable final standing in U.S. grade 12 and
24 semester hours at an accredited college or university in courses
from the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

| Other Countries
|
The admission requirements for international
applicants are normally based on the minimum requirements from
equivalent Canadian secondary school academic systems. However, a
higher standing may be required for admission to individual programs in
which the demand for places by qualified applicants exceeds the supply
of places available in those programs. Applicants are required to
submit original documents of their records mailed directly from the
registrar of the institution they attended to the Admissions Office,
Wilfrid Laurier University. In cases where original documents are
written in a language other than English, applicants must provide
notarized literal translations. Note the English proficiency
requirements as stated in the previous section.

| International Baccalaureate
|
Applicants who have successfully completed the
International Baccalaureate will be considered for admission upon
presenting passes with an acceptable standing in a minimum of six
subjects of which at least three must be at the higher level. The
minimum overall total diploma score requirement is 28. Diploma bonus points are included in the admission average calculation. Some programs are more
competitive and may require a higher minimum overall score. Laurier
will accept IB predicted grades for early admission consideration. For programs which require Advanced Functions,
Higher Level or Standard Level Mathematics would be considered
equivalent; Mathematical Studies is not
sufficient to meet this requirement. Transfer credit is considered up to a maximum of 3.0 credits, for higher level subjects with a minimum score of 5 as well as for the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay with a minimum grade of B in each, subject to applicability to the program offered. Applicants who
are completing individual IB courses (i.e. Certificate) in conjunction
with another educational system, will be assessed for admission on the basis of their
entire academic record.
