Management Option

The Management Option is available only to students registered in
honours degree programs. Students normally apply at the end of Year 2.
The number of places available to students in each of the faculties
(Economics, Arts, Brantford Campus, Music, Science) is in direct
proportion to the number of honours students in each of the faculties.
Students must apply by April 29 of the year they intend to enter the
program using the LORIS online program confirmation. Entry into the
program is competitive and decisions are based on the applicant's
overall GPA as of April 30.
To be eligible, a student must have a minimum GPA of 6.0 in
BU111 and BU121. A student must also successfully complete
a recognized statistics course from their program of study or
BU205/EC205
from the Department
of Business prior to admission.
The Management Option consists of the following 5.0
credits (10 courses: 6 required and 4 electives):

BU121 - Functional Areas of the Organization
BU223 - Fundamentals of Finance or BU383 - Financial Management I (refer to Note 2)
BU227 - Introduction to Financial Accounting
BU288 - Organizational Behaviour I
BU352 - Introduction to Marketing Management
Any
three of the following:
BU231 - Business Law
BU247 - Managerial Accounting
BU354 - Human Resources Management
BU362 - Building and Managing Products, Services and Brands
BU383 - Financial Management I (refer to Note 2)
BU385 - Operations Management I (refer to Note 3)
BU393 - Financial Management II
BU395 - Operations Management II
BU398 - Organizational Behaviour II
Any one of
the following:
EC120 - Introduction to Microeconomics
EC140 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
- The Management Option has been completely revised from the
Administration Option and the new program
is effective September 1, 2010. Students
currently registered in
the Administration Option can continue and complete it using the prior
regulations. Course
substitutions may be required; consult a Business Department academic advisor.
- Students wanting to substitute BU383
- Financial Management I for
BU223
- Fundamentals of Finance must complete BU383
course prerequisites.
Students who complete BU223
must still complete BU383
if they wish to pursue
other third- and fourth-year finance courses. Consult a Business
Department academic advisor.
- Students who wish to enrol in BU385
must first obtain the prerequisite of BU275.
To enrol in BU275
consult with a Business Department academic advisor.
- Applying to the Management Option must normally be done by the
end of
Year 2.
- Any 300-level course may not be taken prior to Year 3.
- A GPA of 7.00 in the courses specific to the Management Option
is
required to graduate with a maximum of 2 course repeats. Any and all
courses specific to the
Management Option will be included in the calculation of the GPA.
- At least 4.0 of the 5.0 credits in the option must be completed at
Wilfrid Laurier University.
