Honours BA Applied Economics with Management Option

The Management Option is available to students registered in honours Applied Economics programs. Students who are eligible, may apply for the option using the online Program Selection Form available through the Office of the Registrar.

To be eligible to declare the option, a student must have a minimum GPA of 6.0 in BU111 and BU121 and hold credit for EC285.

The Management Option consists of the following 5.0 credits (10 courses: 6 required and 4 electives):

BU111 - Understanding the Business Environment
BU121 - Functional Areas of the Organization
BU127 - Introduction to Financial Accounting
BU223 - Fundamentals of Finance  or BU383 - Financial Management I (refer to Note 2)
BU288 - Organizational Behaviour I
BU352 - Introduction to Marketing Management

Any three of the following:
BU231 - Business Law
BU247 - Managerial Accounting
BU354 - Human Resources Management
BU362 - Building and Managing Products, Services and Brands
BU383 - Financial Management I (refer to Note 2)
BU385 - Operations Management I
BU393 - Financial Management II
BU395 - Operations Management II
BU398 - Organizational Behaviour II

Any one of the following:
EC120 - Introduction to Microeconomics
EC140 - Introduction to Macroeconomics

Regulations and Notes

  1. The Management Option has been completely revised from the Administration Option and the new program is effective September 1, 2010. Students currently registered in the Administration Option can continue and complete it using the prior regulations. Course substitutions may be required; consult a Business Department academic advisor.
  2. Students wanting to substitute BU383 - Financial Management I for BU223 - Fundamentals of Finance must complete BU383 course prerequisites (BU127 and one of: BU205/EC205; BU255/EC255; EC235, EC285). Students who complete BU223 must still complete BU383 if they wish to pursue other third- and fourth-year Finance courses. Consult a Business Department academic advisor.
  3. Any 300-level course may not be taken prior to Year 3.
  4. A cumulative GPA of 7.00 in all BU courses applicable to the Management Option is required for graduation. A 5.00 GPA is required in the one EC course. A maximum of 2 repeats is allowed across these course requirements.
  5. At least 4.0 of the 5.0 credits in the option must be completed at Wilfrid Laurier University.
