Concurrent Honours BA/BEd

The honours program for the Bachelor of Arts will be Contemporary Studies, which can be combined with other honours programs, options or minors offered at the Brantford Campus unless otherwise indicated. Course requirements for the Honours Contemporary Studies program can be found in the Contemporary Studies section of the chapter.

Junior/Intermediate students must complete 3.0 credits in one of the following teachable areas: English, history, mathematics*, geography or science. The concurrent program is intended for graduating high school students.

Students admitted prior to September 2007, who have not allowed an 18-month absence in course registration and are in good standing in their program/major, may follow the regulations that were in effect at the time of their last registration, including following the four-year general BA/BEd program (refer to charts below [for the five-year program] and the 2006-2007 calendar [for the four-year program]).

* Completion of this teachable (3.0 credits) may require that courses be taken online and/or through the Letter of Permission procedures.

Refer to the charts which follow for course requirements for the five-year honours BA program. All students in the program must successfully complete the Brantford Foundations curriculum: BF199, BF290, BF299

Notes:

  1. The BA/BEd program is only available at the Brantford Campus.
  2. Variations may occur in the order that Laurier courses are taken within the BA/BEd program provided that prerequisites are met.
  3. The BEd program must be combined with the Honours Contemporary Studies program.
  4. Double-counting may be possible for students pursuing an English, history or geography teachable within the requirements for the Honours Contemporary Studies (CT) program resulting in additional elective course options.
  5. Progression and Graduation requirements for the BA are given in the University Regulations chapter. Progression and Graduation requirements for the BEd are available on the Laurier Brantford website www.wlu.ca/brantford. Students must meet the honours CT progression and graduation requirements each year to remain in the BA/BEd program.
