New Testament Theological Studies: Early Christianity After the New Testament

A study of selected writings, persons and traditions of post-New Testament Christianity. Among the themes to be examined: the problems raised by the delay of the return of Jesus; wrestling with the definition of doctrine ("orthodoxy" and "heresy"); Christian-Jewish relations; the evolution of early church institutions; the canon of Scripture and its interpretation; and the relationship of Scripture and its interpretation; and the relationship of early Christianity to its Greco-Roman milieu. (This course may be taken as a Biblical or Historical elective.)
