Medicine and Society
How society responds to disease, and the role of doctors and the healthcare system to maintain public health, has changed dramatically in the history of Western medicine. This course examines how shifting beliefs about disease, doctors and patients have had an impact on ideas about the body, health and illness, treatment and therapy, and the development of medical institutions such as hospitals.
