Researching for News
This course introduces students to technology-assisted news reporting techniques as well as the means of critically evaluating information and sources. Topics explored will include: methods of computer-assisted reporting such as how to use spreadsheet data and analytical software in the formation of stories; how to obtain electronic and hard copy records from public agencies and other sources; and how to track down credible live sources via electronic and more traditional means. Assignments will emphasize the acquisition and evaluation of quality information and its presentation in journalistic form.
