This course will investigate the major branches of theoretical linguistics: Phonetics and phonology examine properties, production, processes, and patterning of sounds; morphology and syntax explore word, phrase,
and sentence structure; semantics investigates the study of meaning; and historical linguistics studies language evolution as a systematic and predicable element.
