This course examines the history of Spain and its Empire during what historians call their Golden Age (c.1492-1700). It focuses on three basic questions: why was Spain the first country to create an empire extending across the globe; what were Spain’s strengths and weaknesses as an imperial power; and how did the imperial experience affect the development of Spanish society and culture? {E} {P}
