The Rebellious Spirit of 18th-Century French Literature

In the Age of Enlightenment, literature is a way to criticize, question and challenge the establishment. Through two major works and a selection of texts from this period, the course will examine the various manifestations of this literary rebellion, from rationalism to utopias, among “philosophes” as well as “libertines.”
