Examines major debates in contemporary Islamic thought, concerning the interaction of tradition and modernity, the relationship between the individual and community, and the status of reason vis-à-vis revelation. Particular attention will be given to ways in which modern Muslim thinkers are engaging both with classical debates in Islamic intellectual history and with developments in Western thought and culture.
