Electoral Behaviour
0.5 Credit
A comprehensive examination of voting behaviour in Canada. Topics include classical theories of voting, turnout, the use of referenda and public opinion polls, pocketbook voting, gender and class voting, and spatial models of electoral behaviour, in addition to political attitudes that inform electoral behaviour. Changing patterns of voting behaviour will be examined by using recent data from the Canadian Election Studies. The course concentrates on electoral behaviour in a Canadian setting but will involve examples from other advanced-industrial States.
