Ecological conflicts have their roots deeply embedded in the social and cultural relations of power that define shared or contested understandings of nature, self, and community, while also delimiting the horizons of democracy, development, and justice. Focusing predominantly on the Global South, this multi-disciplinary course is devoted to an exploration of these relations, identifying both the contours of dominant socioecological orders and the manifold resistances that point toward alternate futures.
