Scott Smith, Chemistry “With the southern Ontario population putting increased pressure on our water sources, it’s important to apply chemical analysis tools to protect this vital natural resource,” says Scott Smith. The Grand River is a drinking water source and a discharge site for sewage treatment plants. Smith is examining toxins in the river to determine how metals bind to chemicals in sewage; if metals don’t bind, they can become highly toxic and make their way into drinking water.
