Yasmine Shamsie, Political Science After two years in Nicaragua studying the role of women in the informal sector of the economy, Yasmine Shamsie’s PhD dissertation focused on the role of international organizations in promoting democracy in Haiti. She is now researching how international actors are trying to bring peace to Latin America. She particularly wants to study how Canada and the international community plan to advance democracy following the upcoming elections in Haiti.
