Gabriel Moreno-Hagelsieb studies the genomic sequence of microbes and microbial communities. His research analyzes the DNA of these microbes to determine which genes work together to attain a particular biological function, how these associations evolve, and how genetic changes and chromosome structure reflects in their function. Moreno-Hagelsieb’s bioinformatics research has applications in understanding our relationship with the microbes we host, the role of microbes in the environment, the development of antimicrobial agents and for engineering organisms that destroy pollutants.
