Dr. Eli Teram’s research covers survivors of childhood sexual abuse, social work ethics, and the organizational context of social work practice. His recent research concluded that health professionals are skeptical about men who disclose childhood sexual abuse and take their experience less seriously than that of their female counterparts. “Ironically, Western men’s privileged social position makes it more difficult for them to acknowledge themselves as victims, and for health professionals to view them as such,” says Teram.
