People at Laurier

Juanita Metzger ('05), Masters of Social Work, Community Development Juanita Metzger completed her Master of Social Work International Practicum with a national political research organization in Guatemala. Conducting research with campesino communities for a citizen participation project revealed the complex interaction of limited resources and political instability for rural community development in a country still emerging from a lengthy civil war. While the Region of Waterloo is a far cry from Guatemala, the principles of citizen participation remain the same. Metzger currently works with the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council, Region of Waterloo, in community engagement and education, facilitating social change oriented crime prevention.
